A taste of what we’re about…
The Old Butcher’s Wine Cellar is a family owned business and independent wine shop run by Paul and Angela Stratford who have been in the wine trade since the early 1970s.
Paul Stratford was one of the first people to bring Australian and New World wines to the UK market. For many years, together with his wife Angela he has run one of the largest wine import agency companies, distributing nationally wine from throughout the world. Experience over this time means that we continue to be one of the leading specialists in the UK market.
Paul and Angela are now returning to their roots and, together with the team at Old Butcher’s Wine Cellar continuing to source and specialise in quality independent growers from around the world. Our passion and strength is to find our clients excellent quality wines that really over-deliver. Whether everyday wines or fine wines with our secure online site we can also deliver them to you! The shop itself has become a key village hub - we 'become' a very social Wine Bar every Friday night and host a variety of Supper Clubs, Private Tastings and Private Wine Bars too every month.
Old Butcher’s Wine Cellar has been established on Cookham High Street since 1988. The ‘Old Butcher’s’ name originated from our premises, a 17th century, Grade II listed building. This was originally the village butchery and abattoir, supplying locals with fresh meat, poultry and game. In 1988, after extensive restoration, the building was transformed into the Wine Shop and premises you can see today.
Our large wine list ranges from everyday drinking wines across all levels to some of the finest handcrafted wines from around the world. Every single wine is tasted by our experienced palates to ensure that it represents the very best in quality and value from each country.
We also regularly discover interesting small parcels of wine from individual growers and that makes us your first stop to find that special wine or gift!
